8TH GRADE WEEKLY FOCUS

"Ten Dollar Words"

DUE THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2009

Audience:  Ms. Judd

Word Count:  600 - 650 words

Use fifteen of the following vocabulary words to write a creative story.  The story needs to be 600 words long in 18 pt. New Times Roman (your audience is Ms. Judd).  Bring the finished story, in both hard copy and electronic form to class on Thursday.  A peer will edit, and then you can make the necessary changes to the draft in order to reprint a final by the end of class.  You may use any form of the word, but remember a few caveats:

·        You MUST include the double-secret important word parlor

·        ALL the words MUST be used correctly.

·        The story MUST be coherent.  Your grading will hinge on your ability to hang the story together.

·        You MUST bold your required words as you use them (e.g., the fragile boy weakly…)

And here are the other words (Again: you MUST place fourteen of the following in your story):

·        abyss

·        ballistics

·        cacophony

·        conjure

·        mausoleum
