8th Grade Writing Assignment for the next
two weeks:
Writing Foci #2 & #3:
“Debate Preparation”
Audience:
Mr. Scot, your peer editor, potentially your entire Seminar class
#2 Due Beginning of Period Friday, September 7
#3 Due Beginning of Period Thursday, September 13
Write a 750 word persuasive
essay (of course typed, email draft to yourself, etc.) on any controversial subject
you wish. The subject should be one you
are passionate about, and have two easily definable “sides” to the issue.
For #2 you need to argue for
one side of the argument (the side you agree with).
In #3, you will argue the
other side of the argument.
Use plenty of evidence to
support each side in your work, and remember, you
cannot be sarcastic, condescending or “fake” in your writing for #3. You will be graded on your ability to present
facts, make compelling points and use evidence to support those points. This ability to persuade constitutes your
“creativity” grade for this assignment.
